I love painting. Have done since I was a toddler. I used to hide out in the art room in Grade 8 before homeroom, trying acrylics on canvas. I won poster contests. I got into painting scenery in highschool thanks to two amazing teachers, and then at University of Victoria, BC, and at the Belfry Theatre in Victoria. When I moved to Toronto in 2003, thanks to an amazing mentor, I began working in costume design & scenic painting for theatre, with another mentor, and things just kept going from there.
The majority of my work these days is in scenic painting & sculpture. After moving to Vancouver, from 2016-2018 I worked at a scene shop in Burnaby called Scenic Oasis Film, where I was the Head Painter from April 2017 - October 2018, doing sets & props for commercials; see pics below. I am now the Head Scenic Artist at Great Northern Way Scene Shop, doing coordination, painting, and sculpture for sets, props, displays, strange things and the occasional puppet.... I'm also developing a series of personal paintings which I call "Nothing is Original" where I use a combination of techniques to create a multi-layered piece of collage using recycled materials.
