My Story
I love painting. Have done since I was a toddler. I used to hide out in the art room in Grade 8 before homeroom, trying acrylics on canvas. I won poster contests. I got into painting scenery in highschool thanks to two amazing teachers, and then at University of Victoria, BC, and at the Belfry Theatre in Victoria. When I moved to Toronto in 2003, I began working in costume design & scenic painting for theatre, thanks to a couple of amazing mentors, and things just kept going from there... in 2007-9 I started making props for displays, which led me to making puppets, masks, costumes, and fabrication of all sorts of strange things. After moving to Vancouver from Toronto, during 2016-2018 I worked at a scene shop in Burnaby called Scenic Oasis Film, where I was the Head Painter from April 2017 - October 2018, doing sets & props for commercials. I then began working at Great Northern Way Scene Shop, and became their Head of Paint Dec 2020 to January 2024, doing coordination, supervision, training, painting, sculpture and fabrication for sets, props, displays, strange things and the occasional puppet. In my personal art, I've tried a bit of live painting at events, and I'm developing a series of personal paintings which I call "Nothing is Original." In these experiements I use a combination of techniques to create a multi-layered piece of collage using recycled materials. Please enjoy this small gallery :) |
