Making puppets and masks is a special art form to me, and a great pleasure when an opportunity comes around these days. While living in Toronto I worked with Clay & Paper Theatre in 2010 & 2011, went on to launch a puppet theatre project with Frolick Theatre in 2012, and then to more giant puppet & mask work with the Caravan Stage Company in 2014 & 2015. After moving to Vancouver in 2016 I started working with Mortal Coil Performance Society, specifically alongside their work with Indigenous performance group Tsatsu Tsalqayu and their 12' puppet named "M'ek", for whom I made a hat: see below!
Collaboration with Mortal Coil Performance Society 2016-2021
In 2021 I had the honor and pleasure of painting & co-creating a set of small Herring puppets for a very special performance outdoors in Vanier Park, known as sənaʔqʷ before colonization. I also performed on stilts for the event as seen in the film "Siiye'yu" created as part of the Grand Acts of Great Hope program at the National Arts Centre 2021.
